Live Earth New York was the second time I heard Al Gore speak in person, and was equally impressed both times.

I started becoming environmentally active in college - attended and volunteered for Earth Day activities in Central Park, volunteered for Greenpeace, etc. I have chaired the Environment Committee for our local chapter of the League of Women Voters and hosted several community awareness & educational events. Every day, I teach my children methods to save the earth; it is becoming innate to them.

Organizing local events highlights the need for each of us to contribute to reducing our personal production of waste and generation of heat. For example, I organized a trip to our county’s municipal recycling facility for our Boy Scout den, and every child and parent left more informed and charged with actions we can all take.

It is equally important for us to vote for leadership who can and will enact legislation that is pro-environment.
