Shekar Kapur, and global superstar Amitabh Bachchan faced a huge wall of cameras along with our founder Kevin Wall. Former Vice President Al Gore was present via satellite and everyone answered questions - which came in Hindi and English from a group of Mumbai’s finest local, national, and international press outlets. “Little Live Earth”

Live Earth has inspired many groups and organizations around the world to take action and to make a difference one way or another. About a month ago, Live Earth ran across an article that announced that a small town in New York, Greenville, NY to be specific, was hosting a Live Earth event. One year later, our call to action is still being answered nation-wide.

The Ginger Ninjas

A remarkably sustainable band, the Ginger Ninjas, toured 5,000 miles from North California to South Mexico, by bicycle, carrying all instruments and equipment on their bikes, including a 1000w bicycle-powered sound system, sans automobile support.

Now they are planning a world tour in the same fashion, starting late august on the East Coast. The band believes that the idea, “bigger, faster, more” has run its course, leaving a mountain of environmental and social woes and a void of meaning. Into that void rides the Pleasant Revolution, a transformational way of working and living that restores environmental and cultural vitality and returns deep meaning to ordinary human experience.

One year later…July 7 2008.

Everyone here at Live Earth has been thinking about the year that’s passed since our concert events last summer. In the intervening time “green” has become part of the international conversation, and of course Al Gore and the IPCC shared the Nobel prize for their work on climate issues. While we are proud of our contribution to the growing global awareness of the climate crisis, we’re also very much focused on how to advance global solutions, because we’re still not seeing strong global leadership. Japan, Canada, and the United States are blocking discussion of targets for reductions of greenhouse gas emissions at the G8 summit. Our friends at Avaaz.org are taking out an ad and have started a petition demanding responsible leadership - you can sign on and support the ad here.
