More than 1 Million Participate in Friends of Live Earth events in India
Despite our decision to cancel our Live Earth India event in December 2008 because of the Mumbai terrorist attacks, we were thrilled that so many of our community partners in India decided to continue with the "Friends of Live Earth" events they had already planned. Live Earth continues to work for solutions to the climate crisis for the good of the people of India and around the world. We were inspired by the enthusiastic response to the "Friends of Live Earth India" program we have received from environmental, educational, corporate, and other organizations throughout India and internationally, and we welcomed the opportunity to reach individuals, students, and employees through the "Friends" events, creating a lasting legacy of awareness and change. We felt that the Friends of Live Earth Program was one of the best ways we could continue to support our mission after the cancellation of our concert event.

When the vibrant CEO of Ixoraa Media, Lakshmi Pratury asked me casually for help with a Live Earth project in Inda, I found myself saying "yes"; but later wondered if I should have waited for more details. On this occasion, the quick yes turned out to be a great decison.

Despite the cancellation of the Live Earth India concert, more than 5,000 Friends of Live Earth events are happening in India. We would love to share with you one of the events that took place last weekend.
The Guru Nanak English High School in Mumbai, India held their first Friends of Live Earth event on December 6th.

On Friday November 21st, the Art of Living Foundation organized a concert in Delhi featuring more than 1,000 sitar players performing simultaneously. If that wasn't spectacle enough, there was a sea of 200,000 people who attended the concert.
Gaurav Gupta, deputy director of The Climate Project India, provided this exciting report on the first Friends of Live Earth event in India.

CNN's Fareed Zakaria recently spoke with former Vice President and Live Earth co-founder Al Gore about about the results of the U.S. election, the global economic crisis, and Live Earth India.

Last night Live Earth co-founder and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore was interviewed on NBC Universal's Access Hollywood. In addition to sharing his thoughts on the election of Barack Obama and potential solutions to the climate crisis that may emerge from the Obama administration, Mr. Gore was asked about Live Earth India. Are you clued into the Indian music scene at all?
Not much but I would really like to develop an international act here. Latin music has a Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Americans have Fergie and Beyonce. Australians have Natalie Imbruglia. But there's no big youth Indian music star, which is unfortunate. There is so much talent there but no one knows that.
