The U.S. is closer than ever to passing bold climate and energy legislation that will create millions of jobs and help solve the climate crisis. But the battle is not over yet. The American Clean Energy and Security Act must first pass through the United States Senate.

Before the Senate breaks at the end of this week for a month summer recess, they will take one another stab at the debate over climate change that promises to keep our attention.

For example, liberal Democrats, want stronger emission targets compared with the House-passed bill. Strong coal-state senators are pressing for changes to a carefully crafted House deal that would send their electric utilities a larger share of free allocations. But most importantly energy production sits atop the wish list for the majority of Democrats.

In June the bill passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support -- but by only 7 votes!

Keep your fingers crossed because this ground-breaking bill would increase the United States’ energy independence and security while also creating roughly 1.7 million new jobs for Americans. The bill will not only end up paying for itself, but according to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill will actually supply the US treasury with $24 billion in needed revenue over the next decade.
