Live Earth India

There are many reasons why Live Earth's 2008 event is focused on India. Not only is India the most populous country in the world, but it is also one of the fastest growing economies.

Last year, individuals, organizations, and communities demonstrated their support for Live Earth by hosting a total of 10,413 Friends of Live Earth events in 132 countries around the world.

Live Earth is proud to partner with TERI's Lighting a Billion Lives campaign for Live Earth India in Mumbai, December 7th, 2008.

Lighting a Billion Lives is a distribution campaign organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), an organization that aims to develop solutions to fight global problems in the fields of "energy, environment and current patterns of development, which are largely unsustainable."

Together with your help as a Friend of Live Earth, Lighting a Billion Lives (LaBL) will be able to distribute solar lanterns and flashlights to rural communities that lack modern and clean sources of light.

Mumbai press conference live earth india

It was thrilling to be at our press conference last night in Mumbai - Our incredible partners IPCC Chair Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, renowned director (and blogger!) Shekar Kapur, and global superstar Amitabh Bachchan faced a huge wall of cameras along with our founder Kevin Wall.  Former Vice President Al Gore was present via satellite and everyone answered questions - which came in Hindi and English from a group of Mumbai's finest local, national, and international press outlets.
