The We Campaign, founded by our partner, Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection has a new 30-second ad to publicize an urgent message. Simple while making its point, the ad attacks "big oil" for spending "hundreds of millions of dollars to block clean energy" with "lobbyists, ads, even scandals." It's educational and yet ABC still won't air it.
Please join us and sign the petition asking ABC to reconsider and air the We Campaign ad tonight at: http://www.wecansolveit.org/page/s/ABC
"The solution to our climate crisis seems simple.
Repower America with wind and solar.
End our dependence on foreign oil. A stronger economy.
So why are we still stuck with dirty and expensive energy?
Because big oil spends hundreds of millions of dollars to block clean energy.
Lobbyists, ads, even scandals.
All to increase their profits, while America suffers.
Breaking big oil’s lock on our government ...
Now that’s change.
We're the American people and we approve this message."
According to ABC, the air could not be aired because of the use of an image of the U.S. Capitol: "Per our Guidelines, national buildings may be used in advertising provided the depictions are incidental to the advertiser's promotion of the product or service. Given the messages and themes of his commercial, the image of the Capitol building is not incidental to this advertising. Please replace the image with on that is not of another national building or monument."
Cathy Zoi, CEO of We asks, "Did you notice the ads after [the second] presidential debate?.... ABC had Chevron. CBS had Exxon. CNN had the coal lobby. But you know what happened last week? ABC refused to run our Repower America ad – the ad that takes on this same oil and coal lobby."
Since ABC won’t respond to We, they have enlisted the public's help. They are asking us to sign a petition, and as of now, 79,000 signatures have been acquired, encouraging ABC to air the ad on tonight’s episode of 20/20. And now add the 100,000 or more messages that have been sent to ABC asking for them to air the message. We have our fingers crossed for tonight.
Ask ABC to reconsider their decision and air the We Campaign's "Repower America" ad tonight.
