Trying to have a more environmentally friendly Halloween this year? It's not as hard as you might assume.

Just follow the suggestions below to find eco-friendly ways to celebrate the night.

Bag and Baskets

• Skip the plastic bags and reach for something you already have like your pillowcase or a basket.
• Jazz them up a little! Decorate them with a Halloween theme and reuse them year after year or decorate them to match your costume.

Costumes

• Reuse costumes that you or your friends have already wore in the past.
• Go to the local thrift store and collect items to create your perfect costume. FYI it’s easier to go with a costume already in mind that way you aren’t there for hours.

Decorations

• Do you have any battery operated decorations? Use rechargeable batteries to lessen waste and save the environment
• Bring the outdoors inside! The leaves may be falling and the natural look and smell of them could be just what your need to complete your decor.

Eco-friendly Candy

• Did you know there were naturally flavored and colored treats made from organic ingredients? Check out the labels when purchasing candy and opt for other alternatives as well like mini popcorn bags and fruit leather.
• To stray away from litter, maybe mom or dad and hold an extra bag for wrappers if some candy gets eaten along the way.

Invitations

• If you are having a Halloween party this year, send your invitations out using e-vites. They come in different style and they keep track of your rsvps for you all in one site.

Lights

• Using lights outside to keep the kids coming to the door? If you haven't already, change out the bulb and use a CFL.
• You can also save energy and any upset children when you turn the light off to say you have run out of candy

Pumpkins

• An organic pumpkin is, of course, the best way to go but if that's not feasible you can always compost the pumpkin after the holiday or keep it out and give the birds a treat.
• Purchase your pumpkin at the farmers market along with other tasty treats to support your community.

Walk!

• Contemplating between walking and driving. Leave your keys at home! Stroll the neighbor and get some exercise at the same time
• It's Halloween! Enjoy the night and the chance to be outside.
