Education

The water crisis can be solved through increased awareness, water conservation efforts and investment in sustainable, scalable and replicable water projects. In an effort to involve teachers and children in this effort, Live Earth has created an online destination containing easy activity ideas from our educational partners. Our partners Aqua for All, Akvo, Project WET and GLOBE have generously provided fun activities for children, which can be downloaded below. Teachers can also find additional information on these partners and visit their sites for more ideas and activities.

AQUA FOR ALL & AKVO

If you are interested in getting an entire school involved in solving the water crisis, Aqua for All and Akvo have provided us with a detailed outline of the Walking for Water campaign. Walking for Water is a fundraising and awareness concept where school children walk 6 kilometers, carrying 6 liters of water on their back, to raise funds to finance water projects in developing countries. That's just under 4 miles, the average distance women and girls in developing countries travel for water each day.

Project WET

Project WET has provided two activities for upper elementary to middle school students. The first, entitled Sum of the Parts, outlines how everyone contributes to the pollution of a river and lends itself to discussion on how people can lessen their contribution. The second, 8-4-1, One for All, illustrates the interconnectedness of a community sharing a water source. Click the link to download both workbooks.

GLOBE

GLOBE has provided an activity that can be adapted for children of all ages called Water Walk. As keen observers children will visually survey their locale and learn about a body of water, surrounding land cover and water chemistry issues.
