Avaaz.org's Global Climate Petition
Avaaz.org's global climate petition -- signed by more than 400,000 people from literally every country on earth -- has been presented to top officials everywhere from Germany to Brazil, and has generated headlines worldwide. Avaaz's goal now is to pass half a million signatures this fall, to catch the attention of world leaders before the next round of Kyoto negotiations begin this December. The petition reads as follows:
Petition To World Leaders: Climate change is the greatest threat facing our world today - and we are almost out of time to stop it. You must tackle this problem now, decisively and together. Start working toward a new global agreement this year. Set binding global targets for emissions to avert catastrophic climate change. Take bold action immediately - and we will join our efforts with yours.

This is such a global cause
This is such a global cause and I'm always impressed when I see a country making an effort to help limit their emissions and better their sustainability. I wish more countries would put more pressure on the USA. As an American citizen I often feel frustrated by our political process and lack of leadership. I wish other leaders would put more pressure on the US to make changes considering we consume 25% of the worlds energy. There are individuals, some companies, even a few states now trying to make a change but we need legislation to make anything work in this country now, otherwise people will go on with "business as usual." SOS.
I have to say watching this
I have to say watching this concert changed my life and being only 13 at the time i was froever changed and now i'm informing my family, friends, neighbours, and teachers to be more eco-friendly! I have explained that carpooling, walking, using cold water when doing laundry can help also not leaving your computer on all night can help! composting and recycling at the blue bins in my comunity is great ecspecially when you recycle plastics to help lower plastics in landfills. i promise to teach more people about saving our planet and won't stop till i feel i have done my part but theres so many people that i have'nt reached yet and no more time should be wasted it makes me so depressed to actually relieze that its all hapenning so quikly IT HAS TO END SOON!!!!!!!!!! every night I ask... Will tomorrow be the day? The day when we can breath cleaner air. Will it ba the day when the sea levels stop over flowing because our earth is heating up? Or will it be the day when animals will stop being kicked out of their habitat because stupid companies are cutting down our forests so they can make money? All i know is that buying a reusable bag at your grocery store won't hurt you because you'll be making a small investment on life. we need to hurry up i don't want my grandchildren or great grandchildren to suffer because of our doings so take this as a cry for help that wow a 14 year old girl cares so much and wants to do this and doesn't care if she has to do it alone maybe this will ba a wake up call or maybe tomorrow will be the day? also you can e-mail me with some of your ideas AND THOUGHT about climate cahnge or any other subject about our world and i will get back to you!!! I also want to graduate high school in a couple years and go strait to university and study political science and environmental science so yeah get back to me with your thoughts!! @ baby-love-xoxo@hotmail.com or www.cortney-90210@hotmail.com
Global Warming is obviously
Global Warming is obviously the greatest issue the world has ever confronted. We will either unite to deal with it, or perish. I truly fear that there may not be time to act even it is a global effort, however we must try for the sake of our grandchildren.
The first effort must be to prioritize and deal with those events that are currently doing the most damage. If deforestation and coal burning plants are not ceased immediately, all other efforts will be in vain.
Although it may sound far fetched, I beleive an outer space shield of some sort may possibly provide the cooling vehicle needed to slow the polar melting process that is out of control.
Furthermore I feal Kyoto is a wonderful vehicle to unite the counties but its current goal will fall short of what is necessary to alter the green house emission proliferation that has begun.
Thank you in advance, for your efforts.
It's about time we start
It's about time we start doing something to save our plantet...as it is only getting worse...thanks for caring...Jeanne & Tripp

Whether or not there is still time to save this planet and the myriad creatures that dwell on it, WE MUST ALL DO OUR BEST!!!
It's time for change. For too
It's time for change.
For too long now the governments of the world have looked on global warming as something that will go away. It clearly has not worked.
Now is the time for the citizens of the world to make a united stand on these issues and tell lawmakers that we want change. Demand that they stop letting private interests and legal red tape get in the way and make this planet safe for future generations. Legislation is needed now.
Now is the time to act!
Thank you to everyone who has signed this petition and those who continue to promote an eco-friendly way of life.
All together can save our
All together can save our planet!
Time for a change in the way
Time for a change in the way that we do things. Not too many people are going to make that changes that are needed, unless someone with the power to change things are involved.

My New Year’s resolution is to make my house more environmentally friendly, but now I can’t figure out if handwashing the dishes is less wasteful than a dishwasher. What do you think?
Save the planet. SOS.

I am glad that AVAAZ is
I am glad that AVAAZ is taking action on this issue and calling for new binding global targets. However, one of the key questions of the new round of climate change negotiations is how ambitious will these targets be and will they include intermediate goals. The Bush Administration supports long term goals for say 2020 or 2030; but only national goals for the midterm. This is clearly not good enough. Thus AVAAZ should be calling for ambitious long term goals of something like 80%reduction in green house emissions by 2050, 50% by 2030, and 25% BY 2020.
IF WE WERE to be realistic we should probably agree to eliminate all green house emissions by 2020. As only that would avert major climate change and "natural" catastrophes. And it would lead us to making a rapid and full transition to a renewable energy future, which is what is needed anyway.
With this in mind AVAAZ should be calling for the international community to establish an International Renewable Energy Agency or an International Sustainable Energy Fund - which would finance Research, Development, Distribution, and Marketing of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Technologies around the world.
Civil society has put forward and supported proposals for such an International Agency or Fund for years. AVAAZ should be looking into this and supporting such proposals.
