The Brazilian Forum of Non-Governmental Organizations and Social Movements for the Environment and Development (FBOMS) was founded in 1990 in order to facilitate the participation of Brazilian civil society groups during the 1992 Conference of the United Nations for the Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.  15 years after Rio ‘92 and as umbrella network for more than 550 Brazilian environmental non-governmental organizations and social movements, FBOMS is Live Earth Rio’s Brazilian partner.

What does your steak at lunch have to do with the Amazon rainforest? A major aspect of Brazil's effort to reduce global warming lies in how it will combat destruction of the Amazon rainforest as the biggest contributor to global warming in Brazil is illegal logging and deforestation. While halting the destruction of the Amazon is the responsibility of the Brazilian government and local communities, there is no question that this urgent matter is related to trade between the North and the South. Destruction of the Amazon rainforest is in large part driven by consumption in the Global North, particularly the
United States, and the corporations that supply this consumption.

Through Live Earth Rio, FBOMS hopes to raise awareness about the interconnectedness of factors that contribute to and suffer from global warming, such as destruction of the Amazon.  The free show will take place on Copacabana Beach in beautiful Rio de Janeiro.  It is expected that more than 1 million people will attend the event, which will feature great Brazilian and international bands. FBOMS is currently contributing to the messaging to save the planet's climate and to the planning of the logistics of the show.
