Live Earth is proud to partner with TERI's Lighting a Billion Lives campaign for Live Earth India in Mumbai, December 7th, 2008.
Lighting a Billion Lives is a distribution campaign organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), an organization that aims to develop solutions to fight global problems in the fields of "energy, environment and current patterns of development, which are largely unsustainable."
Together with your help as a Friend of Live Earth, Lighting a Billion Lives (LaBL) will be able to distribute solar lanterns and flashlights to rural communities that lack modern and clean sources of light.
Dr. R.K. Through his campaign, local entrepreneurs are encouraged to create the lanterns for distribution to their own rural communities, for whom kerosene is the predominant fuel for lighting. Most workers and community members work off of the suns light and hazardous kerosene, but the new solar lanterns that have CFL's as well as LEDs. This duel system brightens the lives of one billion people and provides a better lifestyle as well.

I like the initiative very
I like the initiative very much and I must admit that it is a cause that is very important.
As a member of the NGO Buddhist lay organisation Soka Gakkai International, in India better known as Bharat Soka Gakkai, I think it would be a good idea to team up with SGI or BSG. Moreover, since the president of SGI, Daisaku Ikeda stresses the importance of durable, alternative energy. He addressed this issue several times in his annual peace proposals.
