Top 10 Ways To Have A Green Thanksgiving

1. Car Pool!

2. Buy locally grown -- even if it's just one item.

3. Buy organic and biodynamic at your local farmers market and natural or conventional grocery store. Biodynamic means grown without genetic modification, synthetic pesticides or use of fertilizer made from sewage sludge.

4. Go light on the meat. Focus on eco-friendly vegetarian fare or at least organic meats. A Thanksgiving dinner has so many amazing sides, it can be delicious without the turkey!

5. Walk to your local grocery store or Farmer's Market.

6. Bring your canvas bags with you!

7. Decorate with organic gourds, corn, flowers and leaves.

8. Have friends and family bring their own bring plates and cutlery if you're serving more than you have place settings for. You can also use biodegradable plates and cutlery, or even rent!   Just avoid paper or plastic.

9. Serve organic wine, champagne, beer, vodka, gin, or cider. Again, buy locally if possible. Use filtered tap water (instead of bottled) freshened with cucumbers, lemons, limes, or oranges.

10. Donate leftover food and decorations to a shelter or a food bank.

One thing which ,I would like

One thing which ,I would like to add to above points is , people should find houses close to their work , even if they have to compromise on the size and quality.

One of the traditions of

One of the traditions of thanksgiving is having meat, and all the trimmings. I think not being a hippie for 1 day wont hurt the enviroment. Take a load off and stop worrying, god. And vegetarian food is gross.

There's a very interesting

There's a very interesting article today at Slate.com about turkeys. Apparently, chickens are generally kinder to the environment. Check it out:

Greening Earth is a front

Greening Earth is a front group for Western Fuels, the coal industry, and global warming skeptic Patrick Michaels who thinks global warming might even be beneficial for some. Take it from where it comes.

The thing to remember: eating

The thing to remember: eating green is FUN!

Sure, it's a challenge, but challenges are fun. Yes, it take thought and ingenuity, but so does winning levels at any game.

World of Warcraft and Age of Empires are great, but Greening Earth is a game we play for real money and real treasure!

8. You can also use

My response: paper plates ARE biodegradable

Vegetarian food is not only

Vegetarian food is not only clean, healthy, and wholesome. It is not gross at all. Meat is actually gross. When you are used to eat meat, out of habit, you don't even feel it's gross when it is taking the lives of other live beings on Earth. If you have visited the slaughter house, you'll know what gross truly is. Vegetarian food is all made of plant source, in fact, many are just the natural food grown on the land. It doesn't need to take away the lives of those walking beings who do not want to die, but can't say it for human beings to understand.

Ok, So first of all, meat is

Ok, So first of all, meat is essential for humans. Have you been in slaughterhouses before? I have, i admit, its not the best sight, but these animals are passed in the most humane way possible. Being involved in agriculture and understanding the economic and not to mention healthful benefits of meat, it makes perfect sense to eat meat. Who knows, maybe your only vegetarian because you feel morally superior than others. if they think bad of you you might say " It's good not to kill- except that you do kill, and you spend every moment of your life wrapped in murder." That may seem extreme, but still. I am disgusted when people who are so quick to point out that humans aren't superior to animals immediately assume that animals are superior to plants. Does evolving without chloroplasts make us somehow special? People complain about slaughtering pigs, but eat lettuce while it's still alive and photosynthesizing. Just because plants don't have a mouth to cry out doesn't make it any better. For that matter, did you go out of your way today to not squish any bacteria? Has your body never been actively involved in fighting billions of innocent one celled organisms?
I said before that you are murdering animals. Did you go to the bathroom today? Did you use electricity? For that matter, did you breath? All of these things either destroy the environment or use resources that others can't use. By the very act of living, even the most minimalist life, you're killing. By saying that you "don't kill" you're doing something worse than killing- denying the truth.
Now given the fact that you're killing others by the act of living, what justifies your right to live? Why do we privilege humans with the right to live, despite the negative effect on our world?
The fact is that our planet can not support everything on its surface- and organisms began evolving a long time ago to take advantage of possible ways that it could support them- by eating. Chloroplasts may be one celled organisms that were eaten by the predecessor to the modern plant in what turned out to be a beneficial relationship for both. Humans evolved along with everyone else, and we got particularly lucky, and developed the best brain (to my knowledge of the species on earth- I do not know what exists elsewhere in the universe, and there are some species that may have comparable or superior brains to humans, such as dolphins, who we are unable to conventionally test). This brain makes us able to contribute in positive ways that other species don't- for example: how many gorillas have made an effort to save their species from extinction? You're free to disagree with my philosophy if you can come up with a better argument than mine- in fact, I encourage you to question your own ethics and write your own web page. Just remember our planet is seriously overpopulated, and someone's going to die. Who would you kill?
