paul-mccartneySir Paul McCartney and his family launched a campaign urging people to reject meat and go vegetarian once a week to help combat climate change.

Together with his daughters Stella and Mary, his son James, and other A-list stars including Yoko Ono, Chris Martin, and Sheryl Crow, the former Beatle wants everyone to give up meat on Mondays.

The aim of the campaign, called Meat Free Monday, is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the world's livestock population, thought to be a major cause of global warming.

WEDToday - June 5th - is World Environment Day! Celebrate the wonderful environment we live in and inspire others to do what they can to ensure and protect its beauty.

Hundreds of events and activities are being held to celebrate the day around the world and online.
One event is the worldwide release of the highly anticipated film, HOME (watch it online here), by renowned photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

The beautifully made movie is premiering in more than 100 locations worldwide, on DVD and on YouTube today. Watch the trailer below in addition to other inspiring videos from UNEP.

The movie is a collection of breathtaking unique aerial footage from over 50 countries, which will show the state of the planet in natural and urban areas with the goal of inciting people to act. "Home" is more than a documentary with a message, it's a magnificent movie, every breathtaking shot shows the Earth as we have never seen it before.

The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 when over 20 million people across America celebrated and came together to create an awareness all year round. It’s nice of us to set aside a commemorative day for our beautiful planet, but really everyday should be Earth Day. There are so many events and ways you can get involved to spread the word.

The NRDC held a fabulous eco-friendly ball in NYC this week called the “Forces of Nature” gala.
