'Love, The Climate' Giveaway Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

GENERAL:
Q: What is the Love, The Climate Giveaway?
A: This positive campaign, which allows participants to enter to win great prizes, as well as share their creativity with videos, voicemails, photos, and facebook posts about the climate, encourages you to thank those who are making a difference, and show those who haven’t yet seen the light how much more love they will receive when they change their minds.

Q: Why is Live Earth doing this?
A: September is a big month for the environment, with the Climate Bill anticipated to leave committee in the Senate, Pittsburgh hosting the G-20 Summit (Sep 24 – 25) and New York City hosting a major UN climate conference and Climate Week (Sep 20 – 26). Live Earth is encouraging people to voice their support for the environment, clean energy, green jobs, and the Climate Bill during a two-week interactive campaign launching September 15, 2009.

Q: What is the Climate Bill?
A: Great question! Live Earth has a post on the Climate Bill, with links to the text of the House bill, a FAQ from the Huffington Post and a New York Times article.

Q: When does the Love, The Climate Giveaway run?
A: The Campaign launches September 15th and closes September 25th.

PARTICIPATION:
Q: How can I participate?
A: There are a number of ways that you can participate. Leave a Voicemail, Make a Video, Facebook Us, post photos on Flickr, follow us on Twitter, join the Friends of Live Earth. In order to be eligible for the prize drawings, you must submit an entry form to Live Earth at: http://joinliveearth.org/page/s/lovetheclimate.

FACEBOOK:
Q: Where can I find the Love, The Climate Facebook page?
A: Our campaign page is located at http://www.facebook.com/LoveTheClimate. Or you can search for “Love, The Climate” on Facebook and choose Pages.

Q: What can I add to the Love, The Climate Facebook page?
A: Become a fan, then leave us a note, a message, a photo, or a link to content that shows how fantastic the climate will be after senators vote and pass this bill.

VOICEMAIL:
Q: What message should I leave?
A: Use your imagination. Thank a senator for improving the world and let everyone know how much you love the climate. Lend your voice to the environment.

Q: Is it free to call?
A: No, this is not a toll-free number – standard rates will apply. But you can have Google CALL YOU by going to http://www.liveearth.org/LoveTheClimate or the “Leave a Voicemail” tab on the Facebook page and clicking on the Google Voice widget. Click on "Call me," enter your number, press CONNECT and we'll call you!

Q: How long can my message be?
A: Your message can be up to 3 minutes long.

Q: What happens to my voicemail?
A: Live Earth will highlight the best voicemails on our website and the Love, The Climate Facebook page (with the audio and/or transcript) and forward on the best ones to the senators to whom they’re addressed.

VIDEO:
Q: What should my video be about?
A: Anything that demonstrates your love for the climate, and your appreciation for our leaders taking action to protect it! Your video is more likely to be highlighted if it demonstrates to senators how amazing life has become in a future where the environment is protected. Sing them a song, read a love poem, speak for the trees...in costume, let the whales do the talking! Seriously…surprise us!

Q: How can I submit a video?
A: Go to http://video.liveearth.org/publish to submit your video or you can upload it to YouTube.

Q: Does Live Earth have a YouTube channel?
A: Why, yes, we do! Go to http://www.youtube.com/user/LiveEarthDotOrg to see our videos. And subscribe to our channel to get notified of all new content!

Q: How do I submit a video to the YouTube page?
A: Upload a video to your account (http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_upload) and make sure it has “LoveTheClimate” as a tag. We’ll be able to find your video that way.

Q: Is there a file upload limit?
A: Yes. Videos can be up to 2 GB in size.

Q: Is there a limit to the length of the video?
A: Yes. Videos can be up to 10 minutes in length.

Q: How will the video be used? Promoted?
A: Live Earth will feature the most creative entries on http://video.liveearth.org and on the Love, The Climate Facebook page, and forward the best videos to the senators to whom they’re addressed.

Q: Who owns the video submitted?
A: Please see the Live Earth / Magnify Terms of Use. You retain ownership of any video uploaded, but grant Live Earth a license to promote and utilize the video within the constraints of the Magnify platform.

PHOTOS ON FLICKR:
Q: How do I participate through Flickr?
A: When you submit a photo on Flickr, make sure you tag it with LoveTheClimate. Also, for each picture, after you have joined the ‘"Love, The Climate" from Live Earth’ group you can choose to “Send to Group”.

Q: How do I join the ‘"Love, The Climate" group?
A: Go to the group page and select “Join This Group.”

Q: How do I add text to my photos?
A: If you don’t have a photo editing program on your computer, there are a number of free alternatives online. Two options are PicFont and DrPic. Once you have saved your new jpg, upload it to your Flickr account and add it to the group.

Q: How can I participate on Twitter?
A: Follow us on twitter @LiveEarth and retweet our announcements and tell the world that You Love The Climate! Please use the hashtag #LoveTheClimate in your tweets so that everyone will know that you are talking about the Love, The Climate Giveaway.

FRIENDS OF LIVE EARTH:
Q: What is “Friends of Live Earth”?
A: This an online social network/ meeting ground where people who support Live Earth’s campaigns, events, and goals of solving our most urgent environmental problems can connect and learn more about our work. Our “Friends of Live Earth” can discuss and share their activities and online advocacy with others. When Live Earth is hosting public real-world events, the “Friends of Live Earth” program supports people participating in our distributed events program to host events in their own communities.

Q: Do you have to register in order to win prizes?

A: Yes, all participants who register will be entered into a random drawing that will be held on or about September 29, 2009 to select the potential winners of the Giveaway.

A: Due to the volume of videos or voicemails that we anticipate sending to senators, we can’t promise that you will be notified if your contribution is forwarded to a senator.

Q: If one of my videos or voicemails are featured or forwarded to a senator do I win any prizes?
