Always wanted to be a model but feared your green morals would have to go out the window? Now there's a better option.
Project Green Search is a new modeling competition that is looking for people who want to "take a stand, get noticed, align your modeling endeavors with your personal beliefs, be an advocate for the environment, animal welfare, fair trade, and human rights. Be the poster girl for what is ok to sell... and what is not."
You must register at Project Green Search by September 16th to be considered.

Tapped is a film that examines the role of the bottled water industry and its effects on our health, climate change, pollution, and our reliance on oil.
Approximately 29 billion bottles of water are purchased every year in America alone. All of that plastic is made with petroleum - with a very small amount of that made from recycled content plastic - and sadly very little of it is recycled.

An empty lot was all that was left after the Austin, Texas airport moved in 1999.
Naturally, ideas started bouncing around about what to do with the massive space. What it has now become is a beautiful, working art installation that serves as a metaphor for the energy-conscious city of Austin.
The field is made up of 15 flower-shaped photovoltaic solar panels that line a pedestrian and bike path on the greenbelt on Mueller, an urban village between a retail lot and Interstate 35.

Iowa! Wind power actually provided 5% of the state's electricity in 2006.
And 3 years later, the Hawkeye State continues to up the ante, Iowa produces between 15% and 17% of its own electricity from wind power.
The state has provided really good incentives to make this happen. Iowa's biggest utility company, MidAmerica Energy, pays farmers $3,500 a year to rent locations for wind turbines.

We're very proud to announce that our Live Earth Films will be featured at this year's Sustainable LA Festival! The Downtown Film Festival in Los Angeles will hold its 4th annual Sustainable LA event this Thursday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you’re in the LA area this Thursday you should definitely head over to Sustainable LA to check it all out!
In addition to the speakers and various green-themed films, there will also be a really cool farmer’s market and product expo. But the best part is that all Sustainable L.A. events are free to the public!

The Australian senate passed a renewable energy law this week that will require 20 percent of the country's energy to be from renewable sources by 2020.
The target is comparable to the European Union's stated goal and exceeds those proposed by the U.S. Congress' American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES).
Many environmentalists and Green Party members remained skeptical, however, after Conservatives convinced the Australian government to classify coal seam methane gas - a coal mining waste product - as a renewable energy source.

The Sierra Club released its annual list of the greenest colleges in the U.S.
The University of Colorado at Boulder topped the list. The top ten included two Pacific Northwest schools (UW-Seattle and Evergreen State College) and three University of California campuses (Santa Cruz, Berkeley, and Los Angeles.
All the schools were judged on eight categories: efficiency, energy, food, academics, purchasing, transportation, waste management, and administration. How did your alma mater do?

We love that Dave Matthews Band has always been at the eco-friendly front of the music business. At their shows they always encourage their fans to carpool, divert waste from landfills and continue to reduce their carbon footprint.
This year, DMB is continuing that commitment to the environment with the So Much to Save campaign.

Human actions are destroying Earth's oceans: what can we do about it?

To mark the first week of the U.S. Senate's summer recess, community leaders and activists from 1Sky and other allied groups held over 65 "Beach Parties" in 28 states across America.
Volunteers gathered in front of Senate offices urging a comprehensive clean energy jobs bill when the Senate returns this fall.
1Sky used "beach parties" as a symbolic action to remind senators of the challenges that global warming presents and to use the opportunities to steer America towards an economy driven by clean and green energy jobs.

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, we must celebrate the social change that the festival was crying out for as well. The music was filled with political and activist messages, and much of it is still extremely relevant today.
Well the folks at Treehugger have put together a great list of some of the Woodstock-era songs that are still significant and influential today.
They had meaning then, and they continue to have a powerful meaning even today!

A new report from the Nature Conservancy sheds more light on the fact that climate change is a regional issue. Rural Midwestern states will face the greatest consequences of climate change, with Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa expected to face the steepest rise in temperature, according to the report.
These states get a massive portion of their income through farming, and with the predicted rise in temperatures by 2100, their soil will be significantly less productive and will devastate those states' economies.

Everyone should be concerned with having a healthy diet, and one that is good for your body and soul. But what about a diet that is good for the earth as well?
In the United States, we have massive meat consumption in our diets.
According to the Archives of Internal Medicine, eating red meat every day increases your risk of dying from cancer or heart disease by 30% and also found higher morality rates among those who eat processed meats.

This week is National Farmers Market Week!
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack designated the week of August 2-8 to honor the great farmers markets around the country, and encourage everyone to visit their local farmers market!
The USDA estimates that there are about 4,900 farmers markets throughout America and over 3 million consumers shop there, buying the fresh fruits and vegetables grown by the 60,000 farmers who sell their fresh goodness there.

NASA has always been at the forefront of new technology and innovative ideas and the latest project in its Greenspace Initiative is no different.
On August 25th, NASA plans to break ground on Sustainability Base -- the most environmentally-friendly building in the agency's history. The building is intended to be the "greenest" in the U.S. federal government.

Cake goes green! We are thrilled to report that the band Cake has made a huge leap in the green world. Cake has always been very vocal about their green initiatives, but this is huge.
The band recently installed a photo-voltaic solar panels to power its studio (see video below). Cake's next album will be recorded using 100% solar energy. Click here for more information.

We are less than 100 days away from the crucial UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen! Leading up to this massively important conference, The United Nations has launched the "Seal the Deal" campaign.
The campaign is calling for millions of online signatures for a climate petition and launching the first-ever Global Climate Week as part of this campaign.
