I’m sure many of you watched the Oscars last night. Congrats to Slumdog Millionaire for sweeping the awards! We also thought Hugh Jackman did a great job as a first time host and the musical ensembles were classic. We’d like to give a huge shout out to the use of recycled materials for some of his performances! Notice the cool recycled cardboard props they used?

The big disappointment was the major lack of environmental sustainability examples during the ceremony. Other than alternative-fuel chauffeur company econation shuttling some stars to the show in the 2010 Prius, there wasn’t much to get green and excited about.

The Oscars ceremony seemed to completely abandon last year’s strive to be green. They used to highlight their efforts in a special section on their website about the ongoing green efforts of the Academy Awards and how they were making big changes. But this year that section disappeared.

Remember last year’s host, Jon Stewart and his cracks about the green theme? “This is the environmentally-conscious green Oscars. So tonight our presenters will be walking all the way to the microphones.”

The previous years of Oscars were offering hope that it would become a standard practice to green award shows, but it seems that has sadly slipped away. The Academy no longer even has a partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council! Why do you think they abandoned the green themes this year? Leave us your feedback.
