Summit on the Summit: Climb Kilimanjaro for Clean Water

summit on the summitThe Summit on the Summit climb starts tomorrow! Emile Hirsch is joining Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco, Isabel Lucas, Elizabeth Gore, Alexandra Cousteau and many others for a week-long trek that will cover over 50 miles as they make their way to the top of the 19,341-foot African peak.

The expedition is to bring awareness to the global water crisis and is the brainchild of singer and producer Kenna; whose own father suffered from waterborne diseases as a child in Ethiopia.

The folks participating in Summit on the Summit will start their climb this Thursday, January 7. The eco-adventurers will be wearing GPS trackers, so you’ll be able to see how your favorite celeb is doing on the Summit on the Summit website, which will be constantly updated with photos, videos, and tweets. So keep checking back for updates.

Inspired to get involved? Check out the website to help raise awareness about clean water issues using social media or to write a letter or email to President Obama.

You can also sponsor a foot of the climb by donating directly to the cause. ($2.00 provides 200 liters of clean drinking water for those in need, and $10 will provide a clean water solution for a child for 1.5 years.)

All funds raised will go towards The Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program, and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
