Everyone here at Live Earth has been thinking about the year that's passed since our concert events last summer. In the intervening time "green" has become part of the international conversation, and of course Al Gore and the IPCC shared the Nobel prize for their work on climate issues. While we are proud of our contribution to the growing global awareness of the climate crisis, we're also very much focused on how to advance global solutions, because we're still not seeing strong global leadership. Japan, Canada, and the United States are blocking discussion of targets for reductions of greenhouse gas emissions at the G8 summit. Our friends at Avaaz.org are taking out an ad and have started a petition demanding responsible leadership - you can sign on and support the ad here.Everyone here at Live Earth has been thinking about the year that's passed since our concert events last summer. In the intervening time "green" has become part of the international conversation: major corporations have launched environmentally responsible brands, presidential candidates are offering plans to fight climate change, high gas prices are making conservation a necessity, and of course Al Gore and the IPCC shared the Nobel prize for their work on climate issues. While we are proud of our contribution to the growing global awareness of the climate crisis, we're also very much focused on how to advance global solutions, because we're still not seeing strong global leadership. Right now, at the G8 summit in Hokkaido, Japan, Canada, and the United States are blocking discussion of targets for reductions of greenhouse gas emissions. Our friends at Avaaz.org are taking out an ad and have started a petition demanding responsible leadership (you can sign on and support the ad here) - it's funny, but the situation couldn't be more serious. Stay tuned for more updates from Live Earth on our next events....we've come a long way in the last year, but we have much more work to do.
