pet carbon footprintYou do everything you can to reduce your carbon footprint in your lifetime, but what about reducing that of your slobbering best friend, or purring kitten? While it might not seem like you can’t do much to change your pet's carbon footprint, there really is. Here is a simple things you can do.

One of the easiest, but often looked over tip is to invest in a higher-quality pet food that lists beef, lamb, chicken or fish as the first ingredient rather than a by-product. This one small change can make a major impact on your pet’s health, and will greatly reduce the amount of poop left to scoop (another eco-friendly result!)

Avoid super-cheap animal toys as they almost guarantee dangerous chemicals and fabrics for your beloved animals. There is a new demand for products made from renewable resources and recycled products. Check out companies such as Planet Dog and West Paw.

One of the most obvious changes (that we hope you already do!) is to recycle. Be sure to recycle all of those cans and plastic food bags so that they don’t end up in a landfill for eternity. Try to buy things with as little packaging as possible to start with even.
