What's Your Live Impact?
Live Earth has partnered with Earthlab Foundation to create the "Live Impact" tool - a new kind of carbon footprint calculator, available now at www.LiveEarth.org. Most "carbon calculators" take rough measures of current behavior and estimate annual carbon output. "Live Impact" allows you to see your current score and precise carbon output - and also provides you with opportunities to make a commitment to change. "Live Impact" adjusts your score based on multiple factors: the make and model of your car, whether you take transit to work, and what kinds of light bulbs you have at home. The dynamic score is based on an exhaustively-researched database - the starting point is specific local data that is precise at the zip code level within the United States and for many countries. Users select their home size and monthly energy costs, allowing even more precise assessment of their impact - the tool even takes regional variation in natural gas prices into account! "Live Impact" requests information about the same major categories that are emphasized throughout the Live Earth events:At Home, On the Job, Transportation, Shopping and Lifestyle, and Community. From forwarding an email message to your friends to learning about how planting a tree lowers home cooling costs, the experience is full of simple steps to reduce your impact on the climate crisis. Users have the option to create an account - after 7/7/07 they will be able to return to the site and learn even more about ways to reduce their carbon footprint. Completing the calculator and registering your contact information is one way that people can get their name (and their commitments) up on screen at Live Earth.
