The Sierra Club is now accepting applications for the Green Energy and Green Livelihoods Award! The chosen grassroots non-governmental organization will get a $100,000 and recognition as an outstanding environmental success in India. After all, effective organizations deserve credit for their effort in environmentally-related and constructive community-based work.

Live from Mumbai!

It was thrilling to be at our press conference last night in Mumbai - Our incredible partners IPCC Chair Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, renowned director (and blogger!) Shekar Kapur, and global superstar Amitabh Bachchan faced a huge wall of cameras along with our founder Kevin Wall. Former Vice President Al Gore was present via satellite and everyone answered questions - which came in Hindi and English from a group of Mumbai’s finest local, national, and international press outlets. “Little Live Earth”

Live Earth has inspired many groups and organizations around the world to take action and to make a difference one way or another. About a month ago, Live Earth ran across an article that announced that a small town in New York, Greenville, NY to be specific, was hosting a Live Earth event. One year later, our call to action is still being answered nation-wide.

The Ginger Ninjas

A remarkably sustainable band, the Ginger Ninjas, toured 5,000 miles from North California to South Mexico, by bicycle, carrying all instruments and equipment on their bikes, including a 1000w bicycle-powered sound system, sans automobile support.

Now they are planning a world tour in the same fashion, starting late august on the East Coast. The band believes that the idea, “bigger, faster, more” has run its course, leaving a mountain of environmental and social woes and a void of meaning. Into that void rides the Pleasant Revolution, a transformational way of working and living that restores environmental and cultural vitality and returns deep meaning to ordinary human experience.

“We” Campaign Unveils New “Switch” Ad

Check it out! During NBC’s coverage of the Olympics, the “We” Campaign will launch a new national television ad entitled “Switch.” This ad is aimed at promoting the campaign’s challenge to repower America and will feature Americans of all backgrounds flipping on a 25-foot light switch – making the change from fossil fuels to renewable forms of energy.
