One year later…July 7 2008.

Everyone here at Live Earth has been thinking about the year that’s passed since our concert events last summer. In the intervening time “green” has become part of the international conversation, and of course Al Gore and the IPCC shared the Nobel prize for their work on climate issues. While we are proud of our contribution to the growing global awareness of the climate crisis, we’re also very much focused on how to advance global solutions, because we’re still not seeing strong global leadership. Japan, Canada, and the United States are blocking discussion of targets for reductions of greenhouse gas emissions at the G8 summit. Our friends at Avaaz.org are taking out an ad and have started a petition demanding responsible leadership - you can sign on and support the ad here.

Al Gore launches the We campaign: We can solve the climate crisis!

The We Campaign is a project of The Alliance for Climate Protection — a nonprofit, nonpartisan effort founded by Nobel laureate and former Vice President Al Gore, which we launched with our first Live Earth concert on 7.07.07. The We Campaign’s ultimate aim is to halt global warming. They are beginning with educating people in the US and around the world that the climate crisis is both urgent and solvable.

Scholastic is launching ACT GREEN! at www.scholastic.com/actgreen, a fun, educational website designed to motivate and empower kids to take action in school, at home and in their community to preserve the environment. This multi-media website provides kids, parents and teachers with customized green plans, expert tips, and a “Greenroom” to share ideas with other kids. Live Earth is pleased to provide several films from the Live Earth Film Series for kids, parents, and teachers to view on the ACT GREEN! site.
