Al Gore's new book "Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis" is now on sale! Following up on his wildly successful 2006 book "An Inconvenient Truth," "Our Choice" goes into more detail about the solutions we can pursue to prevent the irreversible damage to our planet, as opposed to just making us aware of the problem.
The Hindustan Times, based in Mumbai, previewed Live Earth India with an excellent interview of will.i.am. Behind the paper's front page portrait (see below), will.i.am discusses what Live Earth has to offer and why Live Earth India will be such an influential event. Read excerpts of the interview below:

On will.i.am's interest in working in the India music scene:
Are you clued into the Indian music scene at all?
Not much but I would really like to develop an international act here. Latin music has a Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Americans have Fergie and Beyonce. Australians have Natalie Imbruglia. But there's no big youth Indian music star, which is unfortunate. There is so much talent there but no one knows that.

STAR and Live Earth announced an extensive list of legendary musicians who will be performing at the upcoming Live Earth India concert on December 7. Joining Grammy-winners Bon Jovi and Live Earth India spokesperson and actor, Amitabh Bachchan is a list of global superstars including Roger Waters, will.i.am, Anoushka Shankar, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Bipasha Basu, Shiamak Davar, Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Hard Kaur, Jalebee Cartel, Vishal & Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam and Shaan.

Have a stain that you just can’t get out? Think twice before heading to the dry
cleaners. 95 percent of conventional dry cleaners use a toxic chemical called perchloroethylene. This solvent, according to TreeHugger, is a central nervous system depressant, is listed as a hazardous air pollutant under the federal standards and is not even close to be considered green!
Luckily, there are alternative ways to get out that stain. Please continue reading for a list of green solutions as well as other articles relating to eco-friendly dry cleaning
- Find a progressive cleaner – seek a cleaner who uses non-perc alternative solutions
- Consider personal dry cleaning – try a home dry cleaning kit like Clorox’s Fresh Care
- Opt for the washer – invest in a front loading washer that has a gentle cycle
- Steam away dirt and odors – use a steamer or a damp cloth and the dryer to steam out the soil
- Re-evaluate your wardrobe – to reduce your footprint, think twice before purchasing an item that requires extra care.

As we replace old electronics with new ones we might pass them along, recycle them or simply toss them. Unfortunately, the latter two might result in illegal exportation, poisoned waterways and toxic communities.
China's e-waste problem was recently in the news. To curb this polluting trend consumers should get educated how important it to reuse and recycle electronics. Below, the EPA gives some options that are safe for "end-of-life" electronics:
- Basic Information about reducing and recycling electronics
- Where You Live provides information about regional and State eCycling programs
- Where Can I Donate or Recycle My Old Computer and Other Electronics? lists organizations and retailers with donation and recycling programs

The 1Sky team is organizing a welcome ceremony President-elect Obama will never forget.
Today is an exciting day in American history as a record number of voters go to the polls. At the end of the day the U.S. will have either its first black president or it's first female vice president. Either way, reason to celebrate.
But where we watch the election results might not as be important as how we watch the results. Continue reading for a couple suggestions of how you can turn your viewing experience “green.”
- Invite friends and family over and ask them to carpool. Instead of everyone watching the results alone, everyone can get together and crowd over one television/ radio (saving energy) and discuss the progression of the night.
- Reusable service ware should be implemented wherever possible, and biodegradable products are a good alternative if your waste reduction plan includes composting. Additionally, these materials can be added to food waste and turned into valuable compost.
India didn't cause the climate crisis, but its population will bear some of the most damaging effects of global warming: flooding and drought.

True.
Though India didn't cause the climate crisis, climate change may be weakening India's monsoon, producing droughts and potentially causing significant consequences according to a study.
Think you've greened every part of your life, but have no control over your office? Think again. As many of you spend a significant amount of time at work, whether it’s at the office, at home, or somewhere else, there are always measures you can take to reduce your impact. Here are a few easy steps that can make all the difference.
- Power Down. Using a screen saver requires as much energy as surfing the web. If one million people shut down their office computers at night, up to 45,000 tons of CO2 per year. So help out, and shut your computer down when you leave at night
- Flip the Switch. Get into the habit of turning the lights out when you leave a room. If your office has a kitchen, be sure to turn the lights out when you aren’t using it (and unplugging the appliances!). This trick will serve you, your energy bill, and the environment well, not only at work but also at home.
Carbon Retirement is an alternative way to offset your carbon footprint if you're in the EU. It is based on the European industrial efficiency and allows you to purchase EU Emission Permits! Our friends at CarbonRetirement.com created this animation to explain how Carbon Retirement works.

Al Gore introduced a five point plan that "…would simultaneously move us toward solutions to the climate crisis and the economic crisis--and create millions of new jobs that cannot be outsourced," at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. Gore claims that the two major crisis’s we currently face can be alleviated through the same steps:
- Incentives for construction of concentrating solar-thermal power plants in the southwest, wind farms in the Midwest, and plants in geothermal "hot spots."
- A $400 billion investment over 10 years to build a "national smart grid" to distribute renewable energy.
- Aid to automakers to convert to the production of plug-in hybrids. Smart-grid technology that enables the cars to be charged during off-peak hours.
- A nationwide effort to retrofit buildings, which account for 40 percent of carbon dioxide emissions, to be more energy-efficient.
- Climate regulations to cap carbon dioxide emissions.
After two standing ovations, Al Gore left the crowd feeling inspired and empowered because he not only gave us hope that we can get out of this crisis but we will do it unified as a country. Gore reiterated the plan in a New York Times op-ed. Watch the video of Gore's keynote at the Summit below:

With Live Earth India only a few weeks away, many events and recent news reports emphasize why addressing our current climate crisis now is so significant. We invite you to join us!
Live Earth India will help raise money for the Lighting a Billion Lives initiative, which will bring solar lanterns to villages across India. But no matter where you are, you can change your bulbs to longer-lasting, energy-saving compact-fluorescent lights (CFLs), as actor/comedian Will Ferrell does in the PSA below.
Did you know cleaning your fridge coils can reduce CO2 emissions by 150 pounds over a 6-month
period? We didn’t, but with carbonrally.com we learned how to save energy and reduce global warming by taking baby steps.
This amazing site challenges individuals and/ or teams to take small actions and then gives out the "individual result" and the "rally impact" of those actions.
Ever look out your window and wonder how you are going to dispose of all the leaves around your home? An easy solution to that, and to other waste, is a compost bin. Composting is a controlled decomposition process in which organic materials are turned into compost and the nutrients can then be used to boost the health of the soil it is mixed with.
It's easy!

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama will take office in January. What does this mean for America's focus on sustainability and renewable energy? More importantly, will the administration of Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden make America's role in fixing the global climate crisis a priority?
Obama's energy plan, for one, has been public for more than a year. Is it enough to ease the minds of many and bring about the change that America -- and the world -- needs?
The Obama-Biden comprehensive New Energy for America plan aims to:
- Provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump
- Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.
