From the White House to the Empire State Building, green makeovers are changing the face of America!

With today's announcement of the "Empire State Building Leadership in American Progress in Sustainability" project, Johnson Controls has committed to renovations of $20 million in addition to the work already under way on the 79-year-old New York City skyscraper.

This project, supported by the Clinton Climate Initiative and Rocky Mountain Institute, will decrease the Empire State Building's energy use 38 percent and reduce cost by $4.4 million a year, giving it a lead role in the world's most efficient and sustainable skyscraper.

As in November 1930, when the building's doors first opened during the Great Depression, our nation is facing yet another economic down turn just in time for the building's next phase of existence. The upgrade will not only provide educational resources to all 3.5 million visitors a year but the refurbishing of it's 6,500 windows and provide tenants with an online tool to track and manage their own energy usage.

The costs for these improvements may seem like a huge up front expense, but when the expected return in energy savings should pay back these costs in three years, it's a no brainer!
