The city of San Francisco just announced the passing of the toughest and most comprehensive recycling law in the U.S.
According to several studies, about 36% of what San Francisco sends to the landfills is compostable, and another 31 percent is recyclable.
Think of all that could be diverted from the landfills if we change our habits.
We think everyone should take note! Recycling is one of the best ways a person can make a difference in their community. The effort is relatively simple, generally supported by curbside pick up and can even be financially beneficial. Plus, it benefits the planet.
If you aren’t already a recycle nut like us, here are some great tips to get started and make a difference:
- Check with your local government to see about recycling programs already in place in your area
- If there is a recycling program in place, find out its rules and regulations. Depending on location, some items may be accepted and others may not
- If you don't have a recycling program, check with a recycling company. These do exist and they handle everything from cardboard to aluminum and copper and more
Glass, aluminum and newspaper are the most common and easiest to recycle. Think of how much you could be recycling instead of throwing away? It adds up.
