university-of-north-carolina-logoThe University of North Carolina's water program, that strives to bring clean water and enhanced sanitation to areas of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, has received an award worth up to $8.5 million which will be used to expand the program.

The project, which is a collaborative effort from three university programs, is called WaterSHED- Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Enterprise Development.

University researchers will look for ways to improve the amount and quality of water filtration systems, in an effort to reduce the astounding number of deaths caused by water-related diseases.

The program also hopes to develop more widespread access to clean drinking water and other ways to create financial stability.

The 5-year award comes from the US Agency for International Development. This award provides ground-breaking UNC program with the ability to make real change in areas of the world that need it most.

We hope that other university programs join in on the effort to gain clean-drinking water for all!
