40th anniversary of woodstock

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, we must celebrate the social change that the festival was crying out for as well. The music was filled with political and activist messages, and much of it is still extremely relevant today.

Well the folks at Treehugger have put together a great list of some of the Woodstock-era songs that are still significant and influential today.

They had meaning then, and they continue to have a powerful meaning even today!

Some of the songs that top the list are “Mercy Mercy Me” by Marvin Gaye in which he sings about the horrors of what is happening to our environment. Or Joan Baez or Pete Seeger's rendition of "We Shall Overcome" as a call for social change and peace.

Click here to watch and listen to these timeless songs.

What are some other songs that you feel are just as influential and relevant in today's world, as they were during their time?
