Virgin America is officially the first U.S. airline to join the non-profit Climate Registry and report its greenhouse gas emissions.
Virgin America reports that they emit about 25% fewer emissions than other domestic carriers on the routes it flies.

The 10th annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was this past weekend (April 17th-19th).
Coachella, an amazing weekend of music, art and intense desert heat, is known to be one of the more eco-friendly music festivals, with organizers and attendees making a point to literally clean up their act and promote sustainability.
We are happy to report that some of our favorite initiatives were going strong again this year!

As global warming takes a greater affect on our Earth, scientists are reporting that the African Sahel desert's history of "megadroughts" will worsen in the next century as the Earth's temperature continues to rise.
Over 100,000 people have died due to the most recent "megadrought" in the 1960's. This tragedy has brought attention to the fact that the temperatures are continuously rising here.

High-speed trains in the U.S. are in the near future! As part of his green agenda, President Obama has announced plans for the high-speed rails to begin planning and construction soon.
The plans include 10 intercity hubs that will serve to connect the lines, including California, the Pacific Northwest, the Midwest, the Southeast, the Gulf Coast, Pennsylvania, Florida, New York and New England.

Just in time for Earth Day, Grist.org is giving away free downloads of their environmentally focused book, “Wake Up and Smell the Planet: The Nonpompous, Nonpreachy Grist Guide to Greening Your Day!”
This is a great call to action to not just be eco-conscious one day each year, but to be earth-friendly every day!

charity:water will be drilling the first well from the funds raised by Twestival starting on April 11th. They will post a new video of their drilling efforts (every day until April 14th), as well as introducing us all to the different communities that each of us helped through or donations.

More than 10,000 individual donors contributed just shy of $250,000 during the February 12th global Twestival.

Despite the country’s recession, one developer is planning to build the world’s first solar city in Florida. Babcock Ranch would be a true community within itself, with homes, offices, factories and stores.
This massive 17,800-acre project would use half of the land specifically for nature preserves, agriculture and other open spaces for various reasons (parks, etc).

Investing in energy conservation is not only good for the well-being of our planet, but will also generate thousands of green jobs in the near future.
Green jobs are truly the way of the future and Veterans Green Jobs has taken this and run with it by providing career training for military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
