Climate Cataclysm Under “Hillolscope”

A growing number of rapporteurs – some “thematic”,
And others “country-specific” are appearing on the scene-
Of global climate change and challenges of 21st century,
As the glaciers and sea ices are becoming thin!
Earth’s temperature has risen steadily,
And the ice covers have begun to melt-
So the dreams of snow-explorers could become
A nightmare or be easily felt!
Global warming may appear to be a bad news
For the future generations to come-
And most of us spend little time to worry about it now,
While I cannot remain calm!

“Hillolscope” reveals that world’s climate can lurch
From one state to another in a decade or less-
And reminds us the need to adapt to or cope with
The situation that we may have to face!
The Mother of all security issues is closely dependent
On the global climate change-
While the disruptions of geopolitical balance of power exist,
Within or even from a close range!
Cooling in the Northern Hemisphere might occur,
And lead to harsher winters for sure-
Especially in the U.S. and Europe,
Causing massive droughts the peoples may have to endure!
Green forests might turn to brown-white ashes,
And farmlands to mega bowls of dust-
Followed by the destabilization of nuclear powers,
The root cause of hegemonic lust!
Recent studies of temperature indicators,
Embedded in the ancient layers of Arctic ice-
Have shivered the climatologists, via climatic shifts
With shocking speeds and a rolling dice!
It’s the fact that Mother Nature had caused
The global climatic changes in the past-
But the one shaping up now may be caused by us,
Veiled under the delayed forecast!

Global warming, observed over the past fifty years,
Is attributable to human activity link-
And it’s supported by strong evidence, rounded up
By climate experts, and is forcing me to think!
Burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal,
Releases heat-trapping carbon dioxide in air--
And dismayingly causes the abrupt changes
In climate for the global habitats to share!
We have begun to read about shrinking Arctic ice
And melting Alpine glaciers in the book-
While the snows of Kilimanjaro, by 2020,
May appear only in the old pictures to look!
Himalayan glaciers have been thinning,
And retreating over the span of past thirty years-
Followed by the Antarctic ice shelves that existed
For thousands of years are crumbling in tears!
Today, these events lead me to believe
The new cataclysm is awaiting us to face-
And the accelerations are gaining momentums
To overwhelm the solemn mess!
Such jeremiads seem to reverberate the melting
Of sea ice and mountain glaciers’ sobbing-
And will edify apocalyptically about the
Abrupt change over a period for human lobbying!
The largest aggregation of tropical winds will resort
To violent storms on their ways to subside-
And cause the oceans to break through levees
With redirection of water flow to a new tide!
Mega droughts afflict many nations today
To cause dust storms or loss of soil in a flick-
And demand abundant resources, with expertise
In new technology, sharp and slick!

With the progress of climate change, pressures
To confront are building up at an alarming speed-
To de-magnify the gaps between haves and have-nots
With a thought of globalization seed!
History of Earth’s habitats shows the fallacy
Of human choice between starvation and raid-
And the “raid” turned out to be an obvious winner
Or choice to witness the millions dead!
Invasion of another countries continues to rise
In devious ways to access the opponents’ minerals and gas-
And the skirmishes with armed conflicts
Are becoming so viable for the killing of mass!
Change of water temperatures causes migration of fish
To new habitats, and has added a new scorn-
Over the fishing rights; and fisheries are disrupted
Globally, while a new daily war is born!

In “H-Ray Vision”, proliferation of nuclear arms
Is inevitable, irrespective of hegemonic powers-
And the trend will continue via secret deals
With a cash flow, overlooking the control towers!
Oil supplies are stretched thin already,
As the climate cooling has driven up the demands-
And many countries are shoring up their energy
Supplies with nuclear energy from other lands!
Thus, nuclear proliferation has accelerated
In spite of the efforts of control by only a few-
And newer threats of global invasions
From the developing nations are adding the hue!
With population explosion and climate change,
Demands for objects of daily living will soar-
And “Hillominous Flow of Thoughts” warns about
Wars over food, water, and energy, to cause uproar!
So, as the climate change hits our planet slowly,
Wars may loom to re-define the human life for sure-
And dire consequences on social, ecological, and
Geopolitical fiasco will be a bitter pill to swallow or endure!!

Climate Change: A Tremulous Reality

In spite of technological progress,
Signs of environmental distress are roaming around us-
And unsustainable practices are being woven
Into fabrics of modern life, filled with fuss!
A tremulous reality that’s facing the mankind today
Refers to the global climate change-
’Cause the adverse consequences are too imminent,
And are lying within a close range!

Land degradation threatens food security,
And deforestation kills biodiversity on Earth-
While the water pollution affects public health,
Specially the children, since their birth!
Human activities are destabilizing the global climate,
And definitely there is no doubt-
But still we are reluctant to admit it
And are carrying on the matching game of shout!

Climate is not just an environmental affair,
But also a fundamental development issue-
And its impacts endanger the economic
And social progress as well as the brain tissue!
Reliance on the agriculture, green forestry,
And fisheries are based totally on the climate-
While vulnerability to natural disasters
Deserves a thought to control the heaven’s gate!

Eco-friendly technologies must come forward now
To map the health of planet we live in-
And provide a decisive push through
The scientific experts to focus on what they mean!
Ethics of conservation and stewardship
Should guide all the industries in their choices-
But we, the public, cannot wait any longer
To ignore climate change, and raise our voices!

Polar ice caps and the rising sea levels
Are spreading erosions, and damaging the coast-
While the warmer-wetter world harbor deadly diseases
And will cause us to suffer most!
Today we face the real danger in combating
The climate change, and must wake up now-
’Cause it cares little for developing or developed world,
And will affect us all somehow!

Climate change at present is one of the
Greatest challenges the world now has to feel-
And it’s sneaking in an inequity into the
Developing nations who are facing the chill!
Human activities are the main factors,
And we should no longer sit around-
Rather the solutions need to be explored
From anywhere they can be found!

I can see the battle against climate change
Is going to be waged for the next many years-
But with a right mix of policies and practices,
The United Nations can wipe out the fears!
Through choices and purchases, advocacy and activism,
We can reach the desired goal-
And protect our mother Earth with all her resources
Before she faces the perilous toll!

Well, may I seize the opportunity to articulate
My own voice on climate change today?
And allow you, the audience, to consider
What else you can do, or would prefer to say!
I am sure, far more is within our power,
Sinks or resources than is commonly understood-
To design a well-planned transition or
A sustainable world for her habitants and for good!

The international community, as we see it today,
Is only in an “embryonic” form-
But I am too convinced, it has a vision
To safeguard us against any global storm!
Still we, the world citizens, have to keep a spotlight
On issues of climate change to glow-
And adopt the green technology or renewable resources
Before we face the mental blow!

Instead of passing the blame, a sense of
Global solidarity or responsibility is now a must-
To protect our environment, before it falls
Under the realms of industries and their lust!
Dissenting voices would always be there,
But we must carry on this motivational task-
’Cause climate change is a “hot button” issue
That I emulate without donning my mask!

Today, without conservation, economic growth
Cannot be sustained, that I know for sure-
While the smoky air we breathe needs to be clean,
And the water we drink has to be pure!
Thus, global audience needs to be driven by the need
To protect the climate as a resource-
And my efforts will bear fruits only if followed
By public and authority with legal force!!
