USPS_roofThe U.S. Postal service is making a huge green leap and showing the nation that they’re serious about going green.

The USPS building in New York City turned a massive 2.5 acre roof into a green mecca. It is the next in many sustainability projects the USPS has taken on.

The seven story building will now have one of the largest green roofs in the country. It will not only serve as a park and open space for employees, but will also save energy and reduce storm water runoff.

According to reports, the new roof will last up to 50 years and polluted storm water runoff will be reduced by up to 75% in the summer and 35% in the winter. Native plants and trees are being used on the roof and emphasize drought tolerant and low maintenance species, which will be watered with collected rainwater.

Not only beautiful, but also a functional green landscape!
