Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter announced that he will be switching parties from Republican to Democrat on Tuesday.
What does this mean for the climate change agenda?
Sen. Specter's positions are roughly those of a conservative Democrat. He voted against the McCain-Lieberman climate bill twice and declined to vote for the Lieberman-Warner climate bill last year. He went on record saying that the bill contained “very difficult standards which I, candidly, do not think are attainable.”

Bottled water sales have tripled in the past 10 years, to about $4 billion a year. This crazy influx of sales is due to millions of dollars spent on deceiving marketing campaigns to make us think bottled water is healthier, cleaner and safe for the environment.

Amid the thousands of hurdles to overcome the water crisis, there is an overlooked burden that the lack of access to safe drinking water and sanitation places on women. In developing countries, it is primarily the jobs of the women in the communities to fetch water.
The economic, physical and health burden that women and girls must endure everyday of their lives to provide water for their families and communities - this is the forgotten glass ceiling.

Today is World Malaria Day – April 25th. While malaria has almost been forgotten in the United States, it remains the leading cause of death for children under 5 in Africa, killing approximately 1 million people a year.

Malaria is often referred to as a disease of poverty as it mostly afflicts those who are least able to afford prevention and treatment services.

Former Vice President Al Gore testified before key members of Congress on the new clean energy and climate legislation and the urgent need for the U.S. to invest in creating millions of green jobs to strengthen the economy. After Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) mocked global warming as being responsible for the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots' poor season, Gore calmly said that he and other climate change deniers have just simply been receiving bad and misleading information (watch the clip below).

During his recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Justin Timberlake announced his action for the global water crisis and plans to climb Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro. With the mountains highest elevation estimated at 5,891.8 metres (19,330 ft), JT and rapper Lupe Fiasco will join singer Kenna on this expedition for awareness this Fall.
With similar climbs of Mt. Kilimanjaro resulting in up to 10 deaths a year, they are going through rigorous training, “I’ve been training four times a week to get my VO2 [oxygen consumption] levels up to expand my lungs,” Timberlake told GQ. “We’ll climb for a week straight, carrying 30 pounds on our backs. It’s going to be intense.”

On Wednesday President Barack Obama called for a "new era of energy exploration in America" and argued that his proposal would help the economy and the environment at once.

Speaking at a wind tower production facility in Newton, Iowa, Obama made it clear that his new green initiatives are not only intended to address threats of climate change but could also create new green jobs.
He is taking strong stances on the need to make a change, saying “there is no question that we have to regulate carbon pollution in some way; the only question is how we do it. I believe the best way to do it is through legislation that places a market-based cap on these kinds of emissions.”
