Go Veg For The Planet!

Pop-quiz: which adds more greenhouse gasses to our atmosphere: motorized transportation or livestock? Producing 2.2 pounds of beef generates as much greenhouse gas as driving a car non-stop for 3 hours, according to a recent study. For more info on the food-climate connection, go to www.chesapeakeclimate.org.

Plus by being vegetarian, you will live longer, be healthier and you'll be freeing up grain that could feed the millions of staving people in the world. Not to mention that you will help stop the pain and suffering of billions of innocent beings every year in this country alone!

Going veg is a win-win situation. Try it - you just might like it!

Climate Crisis Solution #31:
Livestock adds more greenhouse gases to our atmosphere than motorized transportation does, and rings in at a whopping 18% of total emissions.

So don't have a cow.
And stop being a pig.

EAT YOUR VEGGIES!

The gases coming from cows' rears are even worse, greenhouse-warming-wise, than ol' CO2. Enteric fermentation -- the ruminants' digestive process -- produces flatulence, a.k.a. methane, while manure releases nitrous oxide. Even more emissions come from collateral effects: deforestation for pasture, fertilizers for feed crops, and energy to run meatpacking plants. Visit

I've been vegetarian now for

I've been vegetarian now for nearly 12 years and have just become involved with Getup! and climate change, it would be good to get some ideas on how to talk to people about eating less meat, my first conversation was a little dismal with the person saying "oh I dont think diet has anything to do with global warming" and back to talking about cars.... I say eat less meat, eat organic and free range if youre going to, but it is incredible, people dont want to stop eating animals. Perhaps I should suggest they kill their own? I think it is un ethical that some pooor person has to spend their day stunning livestock...anyway I could go on all day.

thanks for letting everyone

thanks for letting everyone know. A lot of people ignore this fact and focus on the fact that it is only cars that do damage, not eating meat. I've a vegetarian, going for vegan when I have the emotional, financial support...and I've never felt better/healthier.
