March 22nd is a very important day - World Water Day. It is an international day of observance and action to draw attention to the plight of the more than 1 billion people around the world that lack access to clean, safe drinking water.
World Water Day grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Instead of automatically bagging customer’s products in that familiar plastic drawstring bag, Apple’s retail stores are now offering help carrying large purchases to customer’s cars.

Global climate change is severely intensifying water scarcity problems around the world, yet there seem to be very few businesses paying attention to this growing financial and environmental threat, according to a recent report issued by Ceres and the Pacific Institute.
Water is crucial for the global economy on every level. So not only is water scarcity detrimental to the environment, but it has massive effects on the economy.

Green jobs visionary Van Jones is headed to the White House! Jones, a featured speaker at the 2009 Green Inaugural Ball, founded Green For All and is the author of "The Green Collar Economy."
As Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the Council on Environmental Quality, Jones will:
[W]ork with departments and agencies to advance the President’s agenda of creating 21st century jobs that improve energy efficiency and utilize renewable resources. Jones will also help to shape and advance the Administration’s energy and climate initiatives with a specific interest in improvements and opportunities for vulnerable communities.

Still wondering where that $787 billion economic stimulus is going? Well President Obama has a plan for where the green will go -- towards more green. Plenty of that money is going into many sustainable projects and improvements. Specifically renewable energy research, funding for a huge high speed rail system across the country, tax credits for wind power and efficient home improvements, and many many more.
For example, $8.4 billion will go to public transportation upgrades and $3 billion to make some much needed improvements on public parks and facilities.

A new report from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) calls for both rich and poor countries to do their part for a “Green New Deal.”
The report makes great assertions in pointing out that wealthier country needs to do their part, without solely relying on the others. Each country can and should do what they are capable of and address their biggest problem.

First there was Atlanta’s “Carbon Neutral Zone.” Now the city is proclaiming its downtown area a “Zero Waste Zone.”
The Zero Waste Zone is an initiative that was announced last week through a partnership between local Atlanta area restaurants and the massive convention center that will divert tons of garbage, food scraps and used cooking oil from landfills.
