This is for several reasons, including single-engine taxiing, a limiting cruising speeds. If this reduces emissions by 25%, then why aren’t all airlines doing this?

This is a great move by Virgin America and we really hope that other airlines follow suite and report their emissions, and in effect, taking the steps to reducing their carbon footprint. What's more, Virgin America is also supporting the California State Parks Foundation with carbon offsets on Earth Day.
