Wal-Mart to Create Sustainability Index for Consumer Products
Wal-Mart is the biggest retailer on the planet.
This is a scary thought but the nearly 40-year-old company continues to work to become more sustainable.
Most recently Wal-Mart announced a partnership with universities around the world to establish a green index for all the products they sell in their stores around the world.
A consortium of NGOs and businesses, with the help of these universities is collaborating to create the world’s first consumer sustainability index.
This will offer information concerning the sustainability of products that are available at Wal-Marts around the world.
The creation of the Sustainable Product Index will hopefully alleviate some of the issues consumers have when wanted to buy the most sustainable, eco-friendly products, but not having access to all the information. It will provide consumers with a trustworthy and reliable label where they can base decisions about what to purchase.
This is another great step in the right direction for Wal-Mart!
