Former Vice President and Live Earth partner Al Gore joined Google CEO Eric Schmidt talked about Google, the ocean, and climate change at the California Academy of Sciences on Monday.
The pair revealed how the latest enhancements to Google Earth will help us better understand our oceans and the effect of global warming.
Google Earth users can now also observe the melting of the polar ice caps and glaciers through history. In addition to mapping the contours of the sea floor, the application also includes data points and informative multimedia about sea life and the sea itself.

On February 12th, more than 200 cities around the world held Twestivals, bringing together the Twitter community for an evening of fun and to raise money and awareness for charity: water. Twestival was a great success, creating a global buzz while raising more than $250,000 to provide clean water for some of the 1.1 billion who live without it.

It doesn’t take much to green your Valentine’s gifts and festivities. You will be surprised at how much love you can spread around the world. Here are some great tips you can use to show your loved one you care about them, and the planet.
1. Buy valentine cards from local artists who make greeting cards out of recycled material.
2. Make your own valentine cards with recycled items and things from nature such as dried flowers, satin ribbons, fabric hearts.

First there was Atlanta’s “Carbon Neutral Zone.” Now the city is proclaiming its downtown area a “Zero Waste Zone.”
The Zero Waste Zone is an initiative that was announced last week through a partnership between local Atlanta area restaurants and the massive convention center that will divert tons of garbage, food scraps and used cooking oil from landfills.

Earlier today, President Obama signed the economic stimulus bill into law with the majority of the funding going toward for clean energy and other key green initiatives! $500 Million is included in this package that will be go towards Green Jobs!

President Obama signed the nearly $800 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law with more than $60 billion of the funding going toward clean energy and other key green initiatives. And $500 Million of the package is designated specifically toward creating Green Jobs.

An ideal "staycation" should be work-free and fun, so skip unpleasant chores, unplug the phone, and hide your laptop if necessary. Set a festive mood by donning your vacation duds and scheduling day hikes, bike rides, and visits to local museums.

A new report from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) calls for both rich and poor countries to do their part for a “Green New Deal.”
The report makes great assertions in pointing out that wealthier country needs to do their part, without solely relying on the others. Each country can and should do what they are capable of and address their biggest problem.

I’m sure many of you watched the Oscars last night. Congrats to Slumdog Millionaire for sweeping the awards! We also thought Hugh Jackman did a great job as a first time host and the musical ensembles were classic. We’d like to give a huge shout out to the use of recycled materials for some of his performances! Notice the cool recycled cardboard props they used?
The big disappointment was the major lack of environmental sustainability examples during the ceremony. Other than alternative-fuel chauffeur company econation shuttling some stars to the show in the 2010 Prius, there wasn’t much to get green and excited about.
The Oscars ceremony seemed to completely abandon last year’s strive to be green. They used to highlight their efforts in a special section on their website about the ongoing green efforts of the Academy Awards and how they were making big changes. But this year that section disappeared.

The CCA is a national coalition make up of more than 40 environmental, public health and other advocacy groups that have announced plans to engage in civil disobedience at the Capitol Power Plant in Washington D.C. on March 2, 2009. This year Coachella and Stagecoach Music Festivals are teaming up to deliver 18 & Up… the first ever renewable energy customized Golf Cart collection up to you to design!
Coachella and Global Inheritance's Energy FACTory are seeking submissions from individuals and groups to redesign and repaint ordinary golf carts into alternative energy powered pieces of work.
Each confirmed individual/group will receive a stipend, a useable Golf Cart that will serve as the canvas for the project and VIP tickets for the Coachella Arts and Music Festival.

For decades, the City of Los Angeles, which is home to more than 4 million people – has been synonymous with the smog. In 2004, LA emitted over 50 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere – more than the entire country of Sweden.
Confronted with the constant problems associated with poor air quality and energy efficiency, Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa proposed the “Solar LA” initiative.

Every year GreenBiz.com releases a State of Green Business Report which sets out to measure the environmental impacts of major businesses around the world.
This year's efforts revealed mixed results: More companies were doing more things, but moving the needle of environmental progress only slightly, if at all. The 2009 report seemed to be mixed with encouraging and discouraging news.
