Three CEOs that have defined the world with their brands discuss how sustainability is good for business, and how to communicate the most important message of our time at the Empowering a Sustainability Movement panel Monday September 21 at the New York Times Building from 5:00-5:45pm.

Wal-Mart and Starbucks are committed to sustainability at scale, even when it wasn’t popular -- and more importantly, they continue their commitment even in the face economic adversity. Once again, they are at the forefront of leading a global sustainability movement that empowers employees and consumers to take action -- Team Earth.

pet carbon footprintYou do everything you can to reduce your carbon footprint in your lifetime, but what about reducing that of your slobbering best friend, or purring kitten? While it might not seem like you can’t do much to change your pet's carbon footprint, there really is. Here is a simple things you can do.

One of the easiest, but often looked over tip is to invest in a higher-quality pet food that lists beef, lamb, chicken or fish as the first ingredient rather than a by-product. This one small change can make a major impact on your pet’s health, and will greatly reduce the amount of poop left to scoop (another eco-friendly result!)

us open greenThe US Open is going green again! This is the second year the NRDC has worked with the US Tennis Association to make the US Open a sustainable event.

One of tennis' four Grand Slam events each year, the US Open site at Flushing Meadows, New York will be visited by 700,000 spectators over the course of the two week tournament. For an event of this size, their sustainable actions have a ripple effect and inspires vendors to change and sell sustainable products.

Their sustainable practices include mass amounts of recycling, energy efficiency, smarter and greener concession choices and much more. Learn more in the video spots featuring Venus Williams and Billie Jean King below.
