Climate Crisis Solution #06: Green Your Ride

SMALL CHANGES TO YOUR CAR CAN SAVE TONS OF CO2.

No, you don't really need to carry plants around, like this guy. But allowing your car to idle for 10 seconds uses more gasoline than turning the car off, then on again.

ENGINE - simple tune-up can improve your car's fuel efficiency from 15-50%

WINDOWS - Driving at highway speeds, open windows increase drag and cost you fuel. Cool off by popping open the car's vents.

TIRES - Keeping your tires properly inflated will save you about one tank of gas per year. Check the tire pressure monthly, using the same gauge every time. The average tire loses about one pound per square inch every month. Underinflated tires don't roll as efficiently and wear out faster.

there are so many things that you can do to a vehicle to make it more fuel efficient. ex 1 by keep ing the oil up to par your engine will have to work less to idle or run there for using less gas. now we all know that the older the vehicle gets the less efficient on gas it gets for ex. i have an old 91 s-10 blazer, but by keeping up on the manitence it gets a mpg of 18- 23. still up there when my father first bought it. read your owners manaul or go out an get a sercive book for your vehicle. by do small things to our vehiles we can keep just as efficient as when they came off the factory floor.

How could I have gotten the information so wrong? I understood that starting a car requires about a quarter of a gallon of gas, and that it's about the equivelent of letting it idle for ten minutes. Please clarify.
