Cutting Back on Meat Can Help Our Environment
For example - If everyone went vegetarian just for one day, the U.S. would save: 100 billion gallons of water, enough to supply all the homes in New England for almost 4 months and 70 million gallons of gas, enough to fuel all the cars of Canada and Mexico combined with plenty to spare. What comes as the most startling statistic, with an easy change from folks is, according to the Environmental Defense Fund, "if every American skipped one meal of chicken per week and substituted vegetarian foods instead, the carbon dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than half a million cars off of U.S. roads.” How easy is that to do?
People can forget the efforts and resources it takes to feed, transport and maintain all the livestock for meat. The damage it does to the environment goes far beyond what people may realize. Please emphasise the huge
Please emphasise the huge difference between mass production of meat, as only seen in the U.S. and the sustainable small holding, where animals are reared and then slaughtered for sole use and every part of the animal put to good use.
A vegetarian-only world is unrealistic and unreasonable. Meat-eaters are as determined to reverse the destruction of the planet. Over-consumption is the problem. With sustainable living, that is no longer the problem.
