The GLOBE Program
GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment), founded by Al Gore on Earth Day 1994, has become an educational force to educate, train and inspire young people throughout the world to preserve the environment for current and future generations. Currently active in 110 countries, GLOBE supports students, teachers and scientists to collaborate on inquiry-based study and research about the dynamics of Earth's environment.
GLOBE is the world’s largest international science education program! GLOBE has reached millions of students, trained more than 50,000 teachers, and involves more than 20,000 schools in 110 participating countries. GLOBE students learn about the Earth system by collecting scientifically sound environmental measurements and conducting Earth science research. Students conduct Earth science research in collaboration with scientists, other students and community members in the worldwide GLOBE network using the GLOBE database of 20 million+ measurements.
GLOBE is currently building upon their existing work to develop a set of student investigations that will form the backbone of the GLOBE Climate Research Campaign to be implemented in GLOBE classrooms worldwide starting in 2011. The Climate Research Campaign is targeted to engage more than a million students around the world.
Live Earth is partnering with the GLOBE Program to introduce interactive educational activities for exploring the Earth’s weather and climate.
GLOBE is an interagency program funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), supported by the U.S. Department of State, and implemented through a cooperative agreement between NASA and the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado.
