United Nations Climate Change Conference Opens in Poland

The 14th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) kicked off in Poznan, Poland today.
The conference runs through December 12th and is being broadcast live on the web. Highlights of this year's UNCCC agenda include:
- Advance understanding and commonality of views on "shared vision" for a new climate change regime
- Strengthen commitment to the Partnership for Climate
- Make significant progress on a number of ongoing issues required to enhance further the implementation of the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol, including capacity-building for developing countries, reducing emissions from deforestation (REDD), technology transfer and adaptation.
Nearly 200 countries are involved in the UNFCCC and more than 750 non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations are invited to the conference as observers.
