Hong Kong, China– (26, March, 2010) – Live Earth, organizer of The Dow Live Earth Run for Water, today announced that Hins Cheung, award-winning cantopop sensation, will perform live at the event taking place at Wetland Park Road, in Hong Kong on April 18, 2010.
The largest worldwide water initiative on record to help combat the global water crisis, The Dow Live Earth Run for Water is a series of 6km run/walks (the average distance many women and children walk every day to get water), culminating with a water education village and live musical performance, taking place in 80 cities across 40 countries around the world, to raise awareness and funds that will help solve the global water crisis.
The live performance at Wetland Park Road is a “thank you” to those who participate in the run/walk. “We are so priveleged in Hong Kong to have access to clean and safe water but for many this is not a reality. By participating in this event, I want to do my part in raising greater awareness about the global water crisis and encourage everyone to join Dow Live Earth in helping millions of people around the world to gain access to this life-sustaining requirement,” said Hins Cheung, who is committed to lending its name and support to generate awareness for the event locally in Hong Kong as well as the larger global intiative to help solve this critical issue.
The Dow Live Earth Run for Water will start at 9.30am at the Wetland Park Road and is open to anyone above the age of 16. All those participating will have a chance to join the concert which will take place immediately after the race. Friends and family of participants are also encouraged to attend and support this event.
Those interested in the Dow Live Earth Run for Water run/walk can register today at www.dowliveearth.rfwhk.com. All participants will receive a free online ActiveTrainer plan to help them prepare for the event. The registration fee is HK$250 for individual participants, and HK$10,000 for corporate teams of 20 runners, of which 10% and 40% will respectively go directly to A Child’s Right, a water and sanitation charity.
The money raised in Hong Kong through the Dow Live Earth Run for Water will help A Child’s Right install 30 much-needed water purification systems and designated safe water stations in children’s hospitals in Chinese urban centers, which will allow 80,000 children unrestricted access to clean, safe drinking water during their inpatient stays at these hospitals.
“Building on the massive success of the Live Earth: Concerts for a Climate in Crisis in 2007, the Dow Live Earth Run for Water will mobilize the global community to once again come together on one day and take action on one of the most serious environmental issues today, the global water crisis,” said Kevin Wall, founder and CEO of Live Earth. “Water scarcity affects everyone whether they are aware of it or not, and the goal of the Dow Live Earth Run for Water is to raise the profile of this issue, educate the world’s citizens about its challenges and offer opportunities to be part of the solution.”
The Dow Live Earth Run for Water is a global movement focused on the actions individuals can take to effectively address the issue. People are encouraged to START solving the problem today, RUN in a Dow Live Earth Run for Water run/walk in their community or organize their own run/walk through the Friends of Live Earth program, SAVE water in their home and local community through conservation efforts, GIVE money to support clean, safe water projects and SPEAK UP by signing the Live Earth petition to add water as a basic human right to the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights.
“As the title sponsor for the Dow Live Earth Run for Water, Dow is committed to bringing the science, technology and “human element” it will take to help solve one of the world’s greatest challenges - the global water crisis,” said Ian Barbour, general manager at Dow Water & Process Solutions, a business unit of Dow. “On April 18, 2010, Dow’s 46,000 employees will join people from around the world to help millions of people around the world gain access to safe, clean drinking water.”

A Child's Right (ACR) is unique in the water field, as their sole focus is bringing clean, safe, purified drinking water to vulnerable children in impoverished urban and peri-urban centers – specifically to sites burdened with unsafe water quality and high concentrations of at-risk children. In the last two years alone, ACR has provided safe drinking water to more than 150,000 children in orphanages, street shelters, rescue homes, schools, displacement camps and children's hospitals in cities around the world. In 2009, their goal is to assist 100,000 more.
ACR has four major project sites; offices and staff in China, Cambodia, Ethiopia and Nepal; and will be expanding their coverage to India in 2010. For more on their work: www.achildsright.org
